Captain Gregory T. Black graduated from Ball State University in 2007 with a Bachelor of Science in Criminology and was commissioned into the Corps of Engineers.
Captain Black’s command and staff experience includes: Engineer Observer/Mentor at the British Army Command, Staff, and Tactical Training Group in Warminster, England; Company Commander for 38th Engineer Company, 4th Stryker Brigade Combat Team, 2nd Infantry Division and Joint Base Lewis-McChord, WA; S3 for 30th Engineer Battalion, Detachment Commander for 539th Explosive Hazards Team, Executive Officer for HHC, 27th Engineer Battalion, and Platoon Leader for A/27th Engineer Battalion at Fort Bragg, NC.
Captain Black has deployed twice to Afghanistan in support of Operation Enduring Freedom as the Commanding Officer for the 38th Engineer Company and the 539th Explosive Hazards Team.
Captain Black is a graduate of the British Army Joint Operations Planning Course, US Army Jumpmaster School, Engineer Captain’s Career Course, Engineer Basic Officer Course, Explosive Hazards Planner, and Route Reconnaissance and Clearance Course – Sapper.
His awards include the Bronze Star Medal, Meritorious Service Medal (2nd Award), Army Commendation Medal (2nd Award), and the Joint Service Achievement Medal. He has also been awarded the Senior Parachutist Badge and the Steel de Fluery Medal for contributions to the Engineer Regiment.
Captain Black is the proud father of an Australian Shepherd named Cutty.
