The Illinois Institute Of Technology (IIT) Military Science Department offers students education in officer leadership and trains you to join the United States Army. IIT Reserve Officer Training Corps (ROTC) operates under the University of Illinois Chicago Fire Battalion as a cross town campus for students who want to participate in Army ROTC. Army ROTC prepares students for service as officers in the United States Army. Successful completion of the program will allow students to commission as a second lieutenant in the Regular Army, Army National Guard or Army Reserve.

The programs overall philosophy is “you belong here!” The program is open to all who are ready to take on a challenge and be all you can be. We are a people focused organization that is looking for Soldiers, Civilians and Cadets who want to better themselves and become better citizens. Our goal is to create highly qualified officers and citizens who are capable team players and committed to the Army values.

The Army ROTC program curriculum will provide a basic foundation and educate you on the fundamentals of the military and is designed to develop leadership, character, and citizenship through your studies. Some of the things you will learn include: leadership development, military values/discipline, land navigation, and tactics. As part of this training Cadets will be allowed to participate in field training exercises where you will put this training in action and will conduct obstacle courses, land navigation and tactics in a practical environment. In addition to the regular curriculum you can join special teams which will challenge you physically and mentally. Some of these teams include, Ranger Challenge, North Warfare Challenge, Tactics Team and Serve team. If you are a participant of these teams you will gain additional skills like rappelling, patrolling, one-rope-bridge and combat water survival. If you participate in the program you may also get the opportunity to compete to attend Airborne school or Air Assault School.
