CDT Aguirre

Major: Criminal Justice

Why did I join?

Throughout my high school years, I was in JROTC and this influenced me to continue ROTC throughout college. I have several family members serving in the military and I too decided to serve. My parents were a bit nervous when I told them I will join the program but are now very proud. My favorite thing about ROTC are the challenges you face, mentally and physically, and the confidence you begin to build up as a future leader. You develop yourself and can see the growth of other cadets as well, starting from your first year until the day you graduate.

Favorite thing:

My favorite thing about ROTC is color guard. During my high school years, I was part of color guard, and I was excited to know UIC ROTC had a great color guard team. I was not only able to do color guard at various events in Chicago, but I was able to network with people from different communities. Another favorite thing about ROTC is that you get to meet other cadets from different schools. As future leaders, you learn to work as a team and in a diverse setting. Everyone’s differences become a strength.

Accomplishments:

Color guard Officer in Charge, Volunteer, Receiving a 4 year scholarship
