About
First Lieutenant Jones was born in Bossier City, LA, just outside of Barksdale Air Force Base, where his father was stationed as a B-52 Bomber pilot with the Air Force. At the age of five, when he was in kindergarten, his father received permanent change of station orders to be relocated to Andersen Air Force Base, Guam where he retired several years later. Thus, 1LT Jones spent the majority of his childhood living on the island of Guam, graduating from John F. Kennedy High School in Tamuning, GU in May 1998. In August 2000 he moved to Honolulu, HI where he attended and received a Bachelor of Arts in sociology from the University of Hawaii at Manoa. He enlisted in the Army in September 2014 at the tender age of 33.
First Lieutenant Jones served as an active duty Soldier in the 2nd Chemical Battalion at Fort Hood, TX (now Fort Cavazos) as a Chemical, Biological, Radiological, Nuclear (CBRN) Stryker team leader, in the 22d Chemical Battalion at Fort Bliss, TX as a CBRN Stryker squad leader, in the 23d CBRN Battalion at Camp Humphreys, Pyeongtaek, Republic of Korea (South Korea) as a Headquarters and Headquarters Company (HHC) Platoon Sergeant, and in 4-4 Attack Battalion at Fort Carson, CO as an HHC Platoon Sergeant.
First Lieutenant Jones (Staff Sergeant Jones, at the time) transitioned from active duty Army into the Colorado Army National Guard (COARNG) in January 2022 in order to attend Officer Candidate School, where he commissioned as a Signal Officer in July 2022 and subsequently served as the 540th Network Support Company Executive Officer in Aurora, CO. As his “civilian” job, he worked in the Information Technology department for the COARNG until transitioning to the Illinois Army National Guard in August 2024 when he was hired on as an Assistant Professor of Military Science at the University of Illinois - Chicago. He is married to Bunhong “Pink” Jones, and they have two children, Josiah and JoyLove.
