Master Sergeant Berdy Moreira was born in Manta, EC, and graduated from Woodrow Wilson High School in 2003. He enlisted in the United States Army in March of 2004 and completed OSUT at Fort Knox, KY. Master Sergeant Moreira served as a Tank Gunner, Loader, and Driver with 1-68 AR, 1-8 IN with 4ID, and 3-3 ACR, and later as a Tank Commander with 1-64 AR, 3RD ID, Fort Stewart, GA. Master Sergeant Moreira also served as a Platoon Sergeant with 1-11 ACR, Fort Irwin, CA. He then served as an instructor for the Basic Leader Course at Camp Normandy, Germany and as the First Sergeant of Palehorse Troop, 4-2 CR.
Master Sergeant Moreira has completed three combat tours to Iraq in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom, and one tour to Afghanistan in Operation Enduring Freedom.
Master Sergeant Moreira’s military education includes Basic Leader Course, Advanced Leader Course, Senior Leader Course, Master Leader Course, the Common Facility Development Instructor Course, the Army Recruiting Course, and the Army SHARP course. Master Sergeant Moreira’s civilian education includes an Associate’s Degree in Business.
Master Sergeant Moreira’s awards include the Combat Action Badge, the Meritorious Service Medal, the Army Commendation Medal (9 Oak Leaf Clusters), the Army Achievement Medal (5 Oak Leaf Clusters), the Good Conduct Medal (6th award), the National Defense Service Medal, the Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, Afghanistan Campaign Medal (1 Combat Star) and the Iraq Campaign Medal (5 Combat Stars). Master Sergeant Moreira is married to Danery Moreira from Bayamon, PR, and they have three children, Leo, Jason, and Eliana.
